In the women’s event at the Jamaican National Championships for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games trials, Shericka Jackson reaffirmed her status as one of the world’s most complete sprinters by winning the 100m and the 200m, recording a time of 10.84 seconds in the top event on the track and 22.29 seconds in the 200m (1.6m/s).

Her victory in the 100m was not only a demonstration of pure speed, but also a testament to her consistency and competitive mindset. In a close final, Jackson beat emerging talents like Tia Clayton (10.90) and living legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.94), who also secured her place in Paris 2024.

In the 200m she beat Lanae-Tava Thomas, who ended up setting a new personal best of 22.34 seconds, while Niesha Burgher also recorded her best of 22.39 seconds.

Jackson, who has proven her ability in both world championships and Olympic competitions, stands as one of the key figures of the Jamaican team and is determined to add more glories to her Olympic career, carrying with her the pride of representing Jamaica and aiming for the podium in both distances.

With five Olympic medals, including a title in the women’s 4x100m relay, Shericka will be at her third consecutive Olympic Games, where she will be seeking individual gold in either event.

She was also among those athletes who competed in the first Youth Olympic Games in 2010, placing fourth in the 200m.

Jackson also has a silver medal, obtained in the women’s 4x400m relay in Rio 2016, and three bronze medals, including the women’s 400m in Rio 2016, 100m and women’s 4x400m relay, the latter two in Tokyo 2020, held in 2021.

The iconic 37-year-old sprinter secured her place at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which she said she enjoys but also holds in unmatched respect because each edition of the Games represents a new opportunity to bring joy to her people and her people.

“It’s been an honor really, and as I continue with the rest of the season, I just pray that I stay healthy and keep working, because it’s never over until it’s over,” Fraser-Pryce commented after her race.

She noted that the season “has been very difficult, but tonight, as always, I think every athlete carries their own load of problems and difficulties and we all made it to the finish line. I’m really thankful. Tonight, it was all thanks to God,” she said.

With her sights set on Paris 2024, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce continues to be an inspiration to generations of athletes, standing out for her achievements, perseverance and unwavering commitment to excellence.

The women’s 100m in athletics at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will begin on August 2, while the women’s 200m is scheduled for August 4, where both events can be experienced from the purple stadium of the Stade de France.
