Shaniqua Bascombe of Trinidad and Tobago triumphed in the gold medal in the women’s 100 meters at the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games, stopping the clock at 11.19 seconds. Her determination took her straight to first place on the podium, thus securing her ticket to the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.

“With the flag of Trinidad and Tobago in my heart… and on my feet,” Bascombe said emotionally after crossing the finish line, making it clear that her speed is pure national pride.

The event was a true Caribbean duel, with Dominican Liranyi Alonso taking silver with a time of 11.40, and Puerto Rican Francés Colón taking bronze with a time of 11.46 seconds.

With this golden victory, Trinidad and Tobago has its first gold medal at Asunción 2025, and is now in 20th place in the overall medal table, with a total of nine medals: one gold and eight bronze.
