FORT-DE-FRANCE, MARTINIQUE.- French Olympic medalist Dimitri Bascou and his compatriot, world champion Éloyse Lesueur-Aymonin, Cuban Yunisleydis de la Caridad García, Melvin Marcelino of the Dominican Republic and Machel Cedenio of Trinidad & Tobago, captured the attention of the Meeting National de la Martinique, which took place this Saturday at the Stade Louis-Achille on the island of Martinique.

n an event endorsed as World Athletics Continental Tour by the maximum organism of world athletics, it made its debut in the French territory of America, with the participation of Olympic and world medalists, winners of continental medals and of the Central American and Caribbean Games, in addition to the presence of the historic Javier Sotomayor.
France led the medal tally with seven gold, nine silver and eleven bronze medals, for a total of 27 medals, in a large delegation for this event, which served as preparation for these athletes for the national championships in Europe.
Cuba occupied the second position in the medal table, winning five gold, two silver and two bronze medals, where the sprinter Yunisleydis de la Caridad broke the record in the 100 meters flat, which was held by Liliana Allen, who clocked 11.10 (+1.6) on July 13, 1992 in an event in Salamanca.

De la Caridad timed 11.08 seconds and a 1.7 downwind, to take over the Cuban record in the mother event of athletics.
The Dominican Republic took third place, winning three gold medals, one silver and one bronze, with Melvin Marcelino in the 100m flat, standing out with 10.17 seconds (+1.6), and José Gonzáles in the 200m, winning the event with 20.24 (0.6).
Machel Cedenio of Trinidad & Tobago, battled until the end to win the 400m flat with a time of 46.29 seconds, leaving his delegation in fourth place in the medal standings of the Meeting National de la Martinique. Cedenio left behind Gilles Biron (46.62) of France and Ferdy Agramonte (46.83) of the Dominican Republic.

Athletes representing Gabon, the United States and Spain completed the medal tally of this first World Athletics Continental Tour event held on the island of Martinique.
The Meeting National de la Martinique, organized by the Martinique League of Athletics, was broadcasted by Centro Caribe Sports Channel on YouTube for the whole world, watched in the five continents.
This competition served as an evaluation for the delegations that will compete in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games, such as the cases of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago and several athletes from Martinique who represented France in this event.
