Aug 05, 2024

The sprinter Kishane Thompson of Jamaica, won the silver medal in the men’s 100 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a medal that returns his country to the medal table of this athletics event, after his absence in the last edition of the Olympic Games.

Thompson made a time of 9.79 seconds (+1.0) in an exciting race in which the American Noah Lyles was proclaimed champion, making the same time, but the latter beat him by five thousandths of a second.

With this medal, Jamaica is once again in the medal standings in the men’s 100 meters, a day after failing to achieve the same feat in the women’s 100 meters.

The Caribbean were absent in Tokyo 2020, after the TOP-3 of this event was completed by the Italian, Marcell Jacobs; American, Fred Kerley; and Canadian Andre DeGrasse.

Fred Kerley of the United States, took the bronze medal, crossing the finish line in 9.81 seconds.

In the same event, Oblique Seville, took eighth place with a time of 9.91 seconds, sealing a historic day for the 100-meter dash in the Olympic Games, the first time that the eight finalists did not exceed 10 seconds.

Jamaica was 44th in the overall medal standings at the end of the day on Sunday, August 4, with two silver medals and one bronze medal.
