WEIGHTLIFTING, SKATING AND VOLLEYBALL OPEN SPORTS PROGRAM IN SAN SALVADOR 2023

SANTO DOMINGO. – After the revelation of the sports calendar to be held at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games, San Salvador 2023, it was announced that three of the sports will open the competitions in the regional fair next year.
 
These are weightlifting, speed skating and men’s indoor volleyball, events that will take place in the capital of El Salvador, starting June 23, reported Centro Caribe Sports.
 
The stage for Weightlifting will be the José Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium and it will conclude on June 27, with the participation of the best athletes of the Central American and Caribbean area in both branches.
 
In Barranquilla 2018, the last edition of our Games, 24 new jousting marks were set, of which nine were by Colombian weightlifters, six by Dominicans, four by Mexicans, three by Venezuelans and two by Cubans.
 
Weightlifting was led by Colombia, which won 25 medals, 13 gold, nine silver and three bronze, followed by Venezuela, with seven gold, two silver and seven bronze, and the Dominican Republic who finished in third position, with five gold, six silver and eight bronze medals.
 
Another sport that is scheduled for June 23, is speed skating, to be held in El Polvorín Skating Rink until Monday, 26th of June.
 
For the 2018 Barranquilla edition, some 30 athletes, 15 from each branch of nine countries, disputed the medals, dominated by Colombia, by obtaining eight of the 10 disputed golds, in addition to a silver and a bronze.
 
In speed skating, the medal table was completed by Mexico with one gold, four silver and four bronze medals; Guatemala won a gold; and Venezuela finished in fourth place with five silver medals and the same amount of bronze.
 
The men’s indoor volleyball will also start on Friday, June 23 till Wednesday, June 28, 2023, these competitions will be played at the Carlos “El Famoso” Hernández sports venue, an event that was led by Puerto Rico, by beating Colombia in the match for the gold medal, in the Barranquilla 2018 edition.
 
The bronze medal was obtained by Mexico after beating Cuba in five exciting sets, in a match that lasted two hours and 20 minutes.
 
The XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games, San Salvador 2023, will be held from June 23 to July 8, in San Salvador, and the Dominican Republic  as headquarters for seven sports (equestrian, canoeing, field hockey, taekwondo, modern pentathlon, racquetball and shooting shotgun).
