Dominican weightlifter Yudelina Mejía achieved an unprecedented milestone by winning the first-ever world gold medal in the history of Dominican weightlifting — a triumph that marks a before and after for the sport in her country.

Competing in the 86-kilogram category, Mejía excelled in every lift, earning gold in snatch (122 kg), silver in total (271 kg), and bronze in clean and jerk (149 kg).
