BARAJAS WINS HISTORIC MEDAL FOR COLOMBIA
Colombian gymnast Ángel Barajas won the silver medal in artistic gymnastics, men’s horizontal bar modality, in his debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, winning the first medal of his delegation in this edition of the Games.
Barajas, who is 17 years old, is one of the sensation athletes of Colombia and of the Olympic event taking place in the French city.
For Angel, this medal represents all the sacrifice he has had to make to be able to live up to and give a new joy to his family and his country, in addition to remembering that during the process he had to be away from his loved ones. “I thank God, my family and my mom, who was able to fulfill the dream of accompanying me here in Paris. I also thank all of Colombia.”
Shinnosuke Oka of Japan, took the gold medal by totaling 14,533 points, followed by Barajas of Colombia, with the same score, and the bronze went to Boheng Zhang of China.
BARAJAS, THE YOUNGEST
With the medal, Angel became the youngest Colombian athlete to win an Olympic medal, beating the record held by Leidy Solis in weightlifting, who also won silver in Beijing 2008.
