CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN DEMONSTRATE THEIR OLYMPIC TALENT
Delegations from Central America and the Caribbean are leaving notable marks at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, adding several historic medals in different disciplines and standing out in the Olympic medal standings.
Dominica shone with Thea LaFond’s impressive victory in the women’s triple jump, taking gold and marking a historic milestone for her nation.
Another historic medal is the gold medal of St. Lucia native Julien Alfred in the women’s 100 meters, being one of the great surprises of these Olympic Games.
Guatemala is having a great participation, mainly in the shooting discipline, with Adriana Ruano Oliva, winning gold in the women’s shot put, and Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas, winning bronze in the men’s shot put.
Colombia has excelled with the performance of Ángel Barajas, who in his debut, won the silver medal in the men’s fixed bar, consolidating himself as the first Colombian Olympic medalist in gymnastics.
On the other hand, Cuba is also celebrating medals with Arlen López Cardona, who won bronze in the men’s 80 kg category in boxing, continuing the country’s tradition of success in this discipline.
Another country from the region that added to the medal tally was Grenada, with Lindon Victor, who won bronze in the men’s decathlon, demonstrating his versatility and endurance in this demanding discipline.
Jamaica maintained its reputation in athletics with Kishane Thompson, who took silver in the men’s 100 meters, Wayne Pinnock with silver in the long jump, and Rajindra Campbell, who won bronze in the men’s shot put. In addition, Shanieka Ricketts won silver in the women’s triple jump.
Mexico has added three medals, having an outstanding performance in Paris 2024, with Prisca Awiti Alcaraz winning silver in judo in the women’s -63 kg category and Osmar Olvera Ibarra and Juan Manuel Celaya winning silver in jumping, men’s synchronized springboard 3m. The women’s archery team also added another bronze for the country.
The Dominican Republic is celebrating two bronze medals in boxing with Junior Alcantara in the men’s 51 kg and Cristian Pinales in the 80 kg.
Athletes from Central America and the Caribbean are demonstrating their talent and dedication in Paris 2024, bringing pride to their nations and consolidating themselves as elite competitors on the Olympic stage.
