DOMINICAN BOXERS ADDED TO PARIS 2024 MEDAL TALLY

Yunior Alcantara and Cristian Pinales won the bronze medal in boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after falling in the semifinals of the 51 kg and 80 kg divisions, respectively, events held at the North Paris Arena, in the city of France.

Alcantara lost by unanimous decision to local Billal Bennama, while Pinales was defeated by split decision, and both won the first two bronze medals for the Dominican Republic.

These two bronze medals are the fourth in the history of Olympic boxing in the Caribbean country, where Pedro Julio Nolasco opened the medal table in the 1984 edition of Los Angeles with bronze.

In 2008, Félix Manuel Díaz, won the first Olympic Games title in boxing, while Yunior and Cristian, add to the Dominican Republic’s historical medal list.
