Jacky Noc Elected President of the Guadeloupe Regional Olympic and Sports Committee
By: Priscilla Romain/CCS Correspondent: On April 5, after a close vote, the list led by Jacky Noc was elected to lead the Guadeloupe Regional Olympic and Sports Committee (CROSGUA). The new president enjoyed the support of key sports such as cycling and fencing.
By a narrow margin, Alain Sorèze lost his chance at a fifth term at the helm of CROSGUA. He had to concede defeat to Jacky Noc, his arch-rival.
Interestingly, the two were part of the same team in 2009, during Sorèze’s second term. However, they eventually parted ways due to differing visions, and Jacky Noc ultimately left Sorèze’s team.
Noc’s new team is now responsible for steering the entire sports movement through this new Olympic cycle. Focus on competition.
Noc as a Judoka
As a judoka by training and current president of the Guadeloupe Weightlifting League, Jacky Noc brings a vision of sport focused on competition and performance, while his predecessor focused more on the political and even diplomatic aspects of sport. Jacky Noc’s ambition is to guide the entire sports movement toward excellence.
“I was a professional athlete. I am convinced that we must put the athlete at the center of our strategies and operate with values rooted in Olympism, education, and citizenship.”
With this approach, he hopes to garner support from a portion of the sports community that does not yet fully support him. One of his goals is to complete the Olympic cycle with the support of a majority of league presidents, which will allow him to face a new term with greater confidence. Focus on the Caribbean.
Finally, Jacky Noc emphasized his commitment to regional sports cooperation. I have no intention of dismantling the work done by the previous team, which notably organized the first Caribbean Games. He also notes that league presidents are increasingly inclined to consider the regional level.
“What has been done in this area has been done well. We must share the same passion and visibility in our territories as our Caribbean neighbors. However, I want to consult with my team on this matter to define a concrete roadmap.”
Surrounding the new president is an eight-person team, which includes representatives from school sports and a balance between major leagues and those with fewer registered members.
