Saint Lucian sprinter Julien Alfred continues to consolidate her dominance among the world’s athletics elite. This Sunday, at the Diamond League event in Stockholm, the Olympic champion triumphed in the women’s 100 meters. She clocked an impressive 10.75 seconds (+0.9) in wind-legal conditions—her best time of the season.

The victory in the Swedish capital marked a decisive step after her recent triumph at the Oslo meeting. It demonstrated the strength of her post-Paris preparations and her potential for the Diamond League Finals.

In a high-level final, Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain) finished second in 10.93 seconds. Ivorian Marie Josée Ta Lou-Smith came in third in 11.00 seconds, just ahead of American Maia McCoy, who placed fourth in 11.02 seconds.

Alfred, 23, is coming off a historic performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She won gold in the 100 meters and silver in the 200 meters, becoming the first athlete from Saint Lucia to stand on the Olympic podium. She is now the most significant sporting figure in her country’s history. Julien is emerging as one of the most consistent sprinters on the circuit. She is capable of challenging the traditional dominance of powerhouses like Jamaica and the United States.

After crossing the finish line, the Caribbean sprinter shared details of the mental challenge she faced before the race. “I feel good. My coach gave me a plan yesterday when I was having a mental block. The plan he gave me was to stay aggressive. This win means a lot to me, and I’m moving forward,” Alfred said, visibly relieved and satisfied with her performance.
