MEXICO WILL PLAY SEMIFINALS AT THE COLISEUM IN PUERTO RICO

In a game of life or death, the Mexican team defeated Ivory Coast 92 – 81, in an intense game where both teams were looking to keep their hopes of aspiring to the Olympic ticket in the FIBA Qualifying Tournament being played at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot.

The “Choliseo” as the venue is known, will have this Saturday the two semifinal games starting at 4:00 in the afternoon, when Lithuania will face Italy, while the Mexicans will play against the home team, starting at 7:00 at night.

Paul Stoll indicated during the press conference that the physical play that was maintained during the 40 minutes on the court against the Africans is something normal for them and that he is grateful to the younger players for stepping up to surprise the Ivory Coast.

Stoll led the offense with 23 points, also dished out 11 assists, assisted by Fabian Jaimes who contributed 15 units with 12 boards, as well as Joshua Ibarra, who remained strong by finishing with 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

For Côte d’Ivory, Vafessa Fofana had 16 points with eight rebounds and Solo Diabate closed with 12 points and five assists.

SEMIFINALS AT THE CHOLISEO

This Saturday, Mexico will have another tough test when it faces Puerto Rico at 7:00 p.m. in the second semifinal match of the day. Earlier in the day, Italy and Lithuania will be facing each other to stay alive and aspire for the only ticket to Paris 2024 in this key.

There are eight qualified countries in men’s basketball, counting France as host country, and the other seven teams qualified through the 2023 World Cup, among them, the quintets of the United States, Canada, Germany, Serbia, South Sudan, Japan and Australia.
