Natalia Linares Soars in Asunción: Gold Medal, Junior Pan American Record, and Qualification for the Tokyo World Championships
Prensa Centro Caribe Sports.- Colombian Natalia Linares wrote a golden page for athletics in her country and in Central America and the Caribbean this Sunday. In a stellar performance, she was crowned Junior Pan American champion in the long jump, with a mark of 6.92 meters, giving her the gold medal, a new Junior Pan American record, her personal best, and a direct ticket to the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, as well as securing her spot at the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
The athlete showed impressive progress in her six attempts. She opened with 6.66 meters, then jumped 6.55 meters, repeated 6.66 meters, continued with 6.77 meters, added another 6.56 meters, and saved the best for last: an impressive leap of 6.92 meters that sealed her gold, her record, and her international ranking.
Silver went to Cuba’s Rosmaiby Quesada, who achieved a mark of 6.35 meters. The podium was completed by Jade De Gannes of Trinidad and Tobago with a leap of 6.33 meters, thus consolidating a final with a strong Caribbean presence.
“With almost 30 days left until Tokyo, God is so great. Thank you to God, my family, my coach… We’ve sacrificed so much. And thank you to the entire country that pushes me,” Natalia expressed.
Colombia continues to rack up victories. With this gold medal, it consolidates its position at the top of the Asunción 2025 medal table, placing second with a total of 76 medals: 31 gold, 20 silver, and 25 bronze. Only Brazil surpasses the Colombian delegation in the overall tally.
