Guatemala’s Adriana Ruano Oliva made history at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by winning the gold medal with an Olympic record in the women’s shooting range at the Chaterauroux Shooting Center.

Ruano Oliva achieves this new Olympic record with a score of 45 out of a maximum possible of 50 shots, and thus reach the top of the podium, in what is the first gold medal in history for Guatemala and the second medal in Olympic trench for Guatemala in these Paris 2024 Games after Jean Pierre Brol won the bronze yesterday in the men’s competition, placing Guatemala for the moment in 16th place in the overall medal standings of the Games.

Ruano beats Italy’s Maria Stanco who secured the silver with 40 and Australia’s Penny Smith who took the bronze with 32.

Ruano Oliva was 14 out of 15 and 9 out of 10 for 23 out of 25 in stage 1 of the event.

In the second stage (elimination) she completed with 13 of 15 and again 9 of 10, to total 45 and impose a new Olympic record.

The Italian Stanco, made 11 of 15 and 9 of 10 in the first stage for 20 of 25 and for the elimination she finished behind the Central American with 12 of 15, which ended up marking the unreachable difference against Ruano Olivo. For the final round, she made 8 out of 10 possible.

El anterior récord olímpico era de la eslovaca Zuzana Stefecekova, con 43 sobre 50, en los pasados Juegos olímpicos de Tokio, 2020.
