Venezuela Makes History, Wins Its First Men’s Softball World Title in Canada
Press – Centro Caribe Sports – July 13, 2025
Venezuela wrote a golden chapter in the nation’s team sports history by defeating New Zealand 3-0 in the grand final of the Men’s Softball World Championship, held at Prime Ministers’ Park Field I in Prince Albert, Canada.
With a flawless performance, the Venezuelan team secured its first world title in men’s softball and only the second world championship in team sports for the country since 1941.

Timely Power and Commanding Pitching
The turning point came in the third inning, when Pedro Flores—who was batting just .154 in the tournament—hit a solo home run off New Zealand pitcher Liam Potts, opening the scoreboard in what had been a tight game up to that point.
Later, in the sixth inning, Rogelio Sequera got on base with a walk, and Kleivert Rodríguez seized the moment with a powerful two-run hit to center field, sealing the final 3-0 score and extending Venezuela’s lead.
On the mound, right-hander Maiker Pimentel delivered a masterclass: he pitched 5.2 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out eight batters. Though he briefly exited the game due to physical discomfort, he returned to complete his brilliant outing and anchor the victory. His outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the Men’s Softball World Championship.

From Revenge to Redemption
This victory carries a taste of revenge: in the 2013 World Championship final, Venezuela lost 4-1 to New Zealand, and two years later claimed bronze in Saskatoon, also in Canada. In 2022, the team finished in sixth place. Now, a decade later, Venezuela has finally lifted the trophy it had long dreamed of.
A Continental Achievement
With this triumph, Venezuela becomes the second Spanish-speaking country to win a Men’s Softball World Championship, joining Argentina in the select group of nations to achieve glory in this sport.
Centro Caribe Sports celebrates alongside Venezuela for this historic achievement, reaffirming the Caribbean’s talent and passion for sports.
